15 Freebies To Offer Your Online Audience

We can go from feeling pretty blah about a product to “I gotta have it” when you see that FREE sign in big, bold letters. If you’re marketing your business but not gaining subscribers, followers, or sales as quickly as you had envisioned, you’re not making the right moves. Switch things up by offering your online audience freebies in exchange for their email address!

Why Should I Implement Freebies Into My Marketing Strategy?

Implementing freebies into your marketing strategy means you are offering a free digital product to your target audience in exchange for their email address. Once you’ve received their email address, you will be able to reach them in a more intimate way (rather than over-saturated social media channels). By dropping into their inbox, your audience will be able to get to know you and your offerings better, learn more about the value you bring, and learn to like you more.

An email marketing strategy is more effective than social media when converting subscribers into leads and customers.

How To Level Up Your Email Marketing Strategy Using Freebies

While it’s super fun to get creative and begin designing your offer, there are various steps to follow before, during, and after:

Market Research

Before deciding on the item you would like to offer, dig into your previous market research, perform new research, or look at your existing audience demographics and behaviours. What are their pain points? How would your freebie offer them value? Think about this and come up with a list of items that could solve problems within your audience.

Email Marketing Provider

You’ll need an account with an email marketing provider before you begin implementing this strategy. This is where your subscribers will be stored. I love working with Mailchimp, but you could also use Flodesk, Mailerlite, and many others.

Design Your Freebie

Either using the ideas I’ve provided below or your own, begin designing your freebie. I love using Canva to design my printables, but also host digital products through Google Drive.

When your product is complete and ready for download, convert it to a PDF and upload it to a file storage channel like Dropbox. Include the download link in the promotional email for easy access for subscribers.

Landing Page

Building a landing or sales page to host the offer and receive email opt-ins is the easiest way to promote the freebie. The landing page is a place for viewers to learn more about the product and to download it through an opt-in form. These can be built using your email marketing provider, or through your own website.

In the end, they’ll end up on your subscriber’s list and the product to download or link will end up in their inbox. Win win!

Promotion

Last but not least, begin promoting your product! Schedule various posts linking the freebie’s landing page to your social media channels. Promote your freebie a few times each month so the information doesn’t get lost in your followers’ news feeds.

Promote the freebie in Facebook groups, include it in your Instagram link, or through LinkedIn. Wherever your audience hangs out, post it there! Engage with your audience - you never know when an opportunity to promote your freebie may come up.
